Mark Hamill thinks audiences may be suffering from “Star Wars fatigue”
By Ariba Bhuvad
Star Wars is big. That’s obvious. Between the movies and the upcoming TV shows and the Star Wars Celebration going on right now in Chicago, it’s everywhere. Is it possible audiences could soon experience “Star Wars fatigue,” if they aren’t already? Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) believes so. While speaking on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, Hamill shared his thoughts on whether fans will get annoyed with the constant flow of Star Wars content.
It’s no secret that Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed at the box office, at least for a big blockbuster. To put it into perspective, the movie made around $393 million worldwide with a budget of $250 million, plus millions in marketing. That’s well below the haul of even a side story like Rogue One, which crossed the billion dollar threshold. Said Hamill:
"I’m not gonna tell them how to run their business, but is there a possibility of ‘Star Wars fatigue’? Yeah, I think there is. I’ve experienced it, to a certain degree. But they never listen to my ideas anyway, so who needs ’em?"

In addition to the movies, Disney is planning to roll out a couple of live-action Star Wars TV shows on its upcoming streaming service, Disney+, later this year. There will also be a seventh season of the animated show The Clone Wars. Hamill’s a voice actor; would he take a role in that “Well, again, make me an offer.”
You heard him, Disney.
Have you ever wondered what Mark Hamill’s favorite Star Wars movie is? He said it was like having to decide your favorite child, but he still had a response:
"I guess I’d probably have to go with Empire [Strikes Back], only because it was so unexpected to have the protagonist be so soundly defeated, losing the hand and the dad Vader, all of it was pretty unexpected. And it was so cerebral: Yoda is such an important addition to the mythology and I thought it was so clever of George, the concept of the Force so that you could talk about religion and spirituality without making people uncomfortable. So for that alone."
