A Song of Dan and Josh: Daenerys I (A Clash of Kings)
By Dan Selcke
Every week, Josh Hill and I read and talk through another chapter of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin unfinished fantasy masterpiece. This week, we’re taking a look at Daenerys I from A Clash of Kings, and be forewarned: things get a little loopier than usual. I blame the cookies.
Some of the topics we hit include:
- In this chapter, Martin mixes biblical imagery — a savior leading her people through the desert — with more mundane concerns about food and survival. That’s A Song of Ice and Fire in a nutshell, isn’t it?
- Daenerys’ journey in A Clash of Kings is pretty different from her adventures in Game of Thrones season 2. We compare and contrast.
- We learn a whole lot about Jorah Mormont here. It’s the birth of an inappropriate obsession.
Also, do I put a whole Oreo in my mouth? I sure do.
We’re going to be taking a break from A Song of Dan and Josh to cover the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, but don’t worry: we will return with more Clash when season 8 is over, as hard a concept as that is to wrap my head around.
