Let’s talk about all the reunions in the Game of Thrones season 8 premiere

Wow, there were a ton of reunions in the Game of Thrones season 8 premiere, “Winterfell.” It was bound to happen eventually, what with characters coming from the south to join the army of the living in the North, but perhaps we weren’t prepared for all the emotional reunions and joyful hugs that got passed around Episode 801, so let’s see if we can recall them all.

From the jump, we’ve got Bran and Jon. The last time Jon saw Bran, he was in a coma, fighting for his life after Jaime Lannister pushed him out of a window. Side note: I wonder if Bran will break out a quote from Jaime’s past that shakes his world as he did with Littlefinger. “The things I do for love.”

Jon and Sansa, despite their minor sibling feud, had nothing but love and hugs for each other, and it showed that no matter what, Sansa still loves her half-brother/cousin. Of course, the reunion we were all waiting for was Jon and Arya, and it did not disappoint.

I especially loved how Jon and Arya showed off their weapons to each other. You could see the pride in Arya’s face when she presented Needle to Jon. And of course, he had to show her Longclaw. That was a great moment.

Speaking of Arya, did anyone else notice the playful flirtation that was going on between her and Gendry? It’s time to board the good ship Gendarya. I love that he still calls her “M’lady.”

It was reunion city for Arya tonight. She also reconnected with the Hound, who called her a “cold little bitch” and walked away. It doesn’t sound like it, but I’m pretty sure that’s his way of saying he’s happy to see her.

Jon and Sam also reunited in the Winterfell crypts. They shared a powerful bro-hug and it was touching for the three seconds before Sam explained to Jon why he had to compete with his new girlfriend for the throne.

Sansa and Tyrion’s reunion was interesting. You couldn’t call it warm, but then again, they were never exactly close; arranged marriages are precarious at the best of times. They were respectful, although Sansa was slightly incredulous that Tyrion believed his sister Cersei when she said she would help fight the dead, and I think there are a lot of fans who agree with her.

Euron and Cersei reunited after just an episode away, although a decent amount of time passed; he did go all the way to Essos and back. More emotional was the reunion between Theon and Yara, which began with a headbutt and ending with a hug. How many hugs is that now?

And finally, there was the surprise reunion: Jaime and Bran! I don’t think a lot of us saw this one coming, but it was great. Jaime looked horrified that the kid he pushed out a window all those years ago was still around to tell his secret. But Bran…who knows what Bran will do? He’s above all human concerns these days. Would he even both bringing up what Jaime did back in the season premiere? But then again, Bran must have had a reason to wait up all night to see his “old friend.” Maybe the human part of him still wants to bring Jaime to justice, or is there something more going on?

Is there anyone I’m missing? Let me know in the comments below.
