Fashion is Coming: The costumes of “Winterfell”

Most of the characters in “Winterfell” are clad in darker colors, but Daenerys wears a white coat that seems particularly symbolic against the vast sea of black and brown outfits. Her coat emphasizes the fact that she’s different from the rest of them, an outsider in Winterfell, and indeed, she meets a lot of resistance from the locals.

The white color of Daenerys’ costume has a more positive connotation then do the Northerners’ black clothes. We can read this as Daenerys being optimistic about the future of Westeros and her reign as queen, while the Northerners are less obliged to believe their lives will be improved by her rule. They’ve seen kings come and go, and they’re less willing to trust in this better world the Targaryen queen is offering them.
