HBO to President Trump: Stop with the Game of Thrones memes

Life can be stranger than fiction. Case in point: the fake world of Game of Thrones has once again colliding with the real-world of United States politics as President Donald Trump (or whoever in his administration made this graphic) blatantly ripped off the show’s font in a tweet celebrating the full release of the redacted Mueller Report, which the president claims clears him of wrongdoing related to the 2016 presidential election and let’s not get into the specifics because the Game of Thrones fandom can be divided enough as it is.

HBO was quick to respond to the president’s tweet with a statement:

"Though we can understand the enthusiasm for Game of Thrones now that the final season has arrived, we still prefer our intellectual property not be used for political purposes."

This isn’t the first time President Trump has appropriated the show’s imagery. This past November, he tweeted out this photo about Iranian sanctions:

HBO issued a similar message after that tweet. “We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes.”

And finally, President Trump posted this to his Instagram a while back:

So clearly SOMEONE on Trump’s team is a Game of Thrones fan. I don’t know if it’s Trump himself, but someone is watching. But they may want to take the one about the Wall down, since the Night King breached it and his army is rampaging through Westeros as we speak. Sorry, Ned Umber.
