Three-hour-plus Avengers: Endgame is “exactly as long as it needs to be”
By Ariba Bhuvad
Avengers: Endgame is almost here, guys! After waiting a whole year (it’s definitely felt much longer than that), we are so close to finding out what happens after the Snap. Did our favorites really die? What will the remaining Avengers do to get them back and defeat Thanos? Also, who else is excited to see Captain Marvel in action once again?
Given that we’re just literal days away from the April 26 premiere, there’s been plenty of Endgame buzz going around.
Over on The Late Show, some of the Avengers stopped by to get silly. Watch the clip above if you want to laugh until you cry. “Is the Avengers’ greatest enemy indeed Thanos, or the occupational hazards of a spandex work uniform?” asks one member of Stephen Colbert’s staff. “How is Thor’s prop comedy game?” asks another. This is important stuff.

While we prepare to say goodbye to some of our favorites heroes (we know some of them are dying, right?), my question to all of you is, are you ready for a three-hour movie? Avengers: Endgame runs for three hours and two minutes, which is…a while. Is that a good thing? Speaking to Vulture, screenwriter Stephen McFeeley gave his take:
"It’s exactly as long as it needs to be. Any shorter and it would have felt like we weren’t honoring all the threads and franchises that are feeding into this climax. Twenty-two movies in, not only has the movie earned its length, but people deserve a movie of that substance."
I absolutely agree.
Given that Avengers: Endgame is an ending of sorts to this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans are curious to know what the next phase will look like. Following this epic conclusion, we still have plenty of Marvel movies to look forward to, with Spiderman: Far From Home just around the corner.
In fact, it’s coming even sooner than we through, according to Forbes. The release date was moved to July 2 rather than July 5, for reasons unclear. But given all the movies/television shows premiering in the month of July, it may be about. How will the first post-Endgame movie do against the likes of Stranger Things season 3 and Disney’s live-action Lion King remake? July 2019 will be the biggest month for pop culture since April 2019.
