How George R.R. Martin unknowingly fulfilled a dying fan’s wish

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin did something amazing last year, and he may never have known about it if not for This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman. Earlier this week, Fogelman took to Twitter to share a heartfelt story, as if he doesn’t make us cry enough already.

Yes, yes we do!

He’s got two “R”s in his name, but we’re still with you. Go on.

What a picture! That’s one hell of a memory.

Who knew George R.R. Martin was so sweet!?

Aw man, the feels.

I would love to know how George. R.R. Martin reacted to this beautiful story.

Fogelman shared this story ahead of the season 8 premiere. He talked to PEOPLE about how he and Hanan watched the show together in the past:

"Our friend, Alex Hanan, is watching TV tonight from above. Spoiling every single reveal for everyone up there, driving everyone nuts. Thank you, George R R Martin, for making what would turn out to be Alex’s last year. And thanks to all involved for making his favorite show."

Are you crying yet? Because I sure am.
