The Wheel of Time fansite The Daily Trolloc reports that Amazon has hired The Last Kingdom casting director Kelly Valentine Hendry to find the actors for its upcoming adaptation of Robert Jordan’s seminal fantasy series. In fact, Hendry’s casting website has been updated to show The Wheel of Time as one of its projects, so consider this news confirmed.
The Wheel of Time fandom is just as passionate and rabid as the Game of Thrones fandom, so Hendry will have her hands full casting the the dozens of characters featured in over a dozen novels. She’ll join showrunner Rafe Judkins, writers Mike and Paul Clarkson, and director Uta Briesewitz in what is starting to look like a solid crew. The synopsis for the show is thus:
The fantasy epic is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine believes that one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it. The series draws on numerous elements of European and Asian culture and philosophy, most notably the cyclical nature of time found in Buddhism and Hinduism.
If you’re a fan of the books and are excited to see how Rafe Judkins is putting together the second most anticipated fantasy epic currently in the works at Amazon, check him out on Twitter, as he usually keeps eager fans updated on the regular.
Production for the show is set to begin in September of this year, so Hendry will have to get cracking on casting those roles.
