The last time Theon Greyjoy and Sansa Stark saw each other was in the first episode of season 6. Theon had just decided he was no longer Reek, and he helped Sansa escape the abuse and eventual horrible death at the hands of Ramsay.

In Game of Thrones Episode 802, Theon returned to Winterfell to help fight the Night King, and he and Sansa had a very emotional reunion. Let’s set the stage:
Daenerys and Sansa are having a moment where they almost…alllmmmooosssttt become friends, when they are interrupted by Maester Wolkan. They are taken to a room where Theon Greyjoy and his Iron Born soldiers are awaiting the Lady of Winterfell and the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Dany asks where Yara is and Theon explains she’s headed to the Iron Islands, he then turns to Sansa and tells her he’s there to defend Winterfell, asking Sansa directly if he’s welcome.
Sansa emotionally runs into Theon’s arms, and they have a long hug. Hang on, I need a second, something is in my eye…okay, back to it. Later, when Jon is going over the plan to defend Winterfell, Bran reveals that he will lure the Night King into the Godswood of Winterfell because that’s why he’s coming there anyway: to erase all memory of man.
As Bran’s siblings raise concerns, Theon speaks up and volunteers to stand guard over Bran; that he and his Iron Born will stand in the way of the Night King and Bran until Daenerys and her dragons can arrive and try to kill the leader of the White Walker army. Theon says he needs to make up for taking Winterfell from Bran all those years ago, and he and Bran have a nice moment…or look, or whatever you call was Bran does now.
Anyway, it’s a great moment for Theon, and will probably lead to the final step in his redemption arc because I cannot see Theon surviving a battle with the Night King. But who knows? I’ve been surprised before. There’s also a nice shot of Theon and Sansa having a bowl of stew together, and it seems like there’s a deep bond between the two. Here’s hoping Theon lives through the next couple of episodes.
