As great as this week’s episode, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” was, and it was great, it’s time for the main event, the Battle of Winterfell. We’re not going to learn the episode titles ahead of time, but here’s the preview for season 8, episode 3. Gaze upon the doom of man!

Ordinarily, we’d say based on the armies and defenses we see in the preview, Winterfell and its heroes would smash anyone attempting to take the castle, so we’re guessing when we see the full army of the dead its going to be quite overwhelming.And yet, we don’t get a warm and fuzzy feeling from the preview. The preview doesn’t give us much in terms of the actual action, but either way, I don’t think we’re emotionally prepared for what’s to come next week.

Our biggest takeaway comes from Daenerys’ comment, “the dead are already here.” Between that and the Hound and Beric searching for the dead inside Winterfell, it seems like the Night King might have a trick up his sleeve. Could we see the dead arise down in the crypts of Winterfell?

Ultimately, like the rest of season 8, it seems Game of Thrones is playing it close to the chest. Which of our heroes will make it our alive? And which will join the army of the dead? Waiting an entire week for this next episode is cruel and unusual punishment.
