HBO teases Watchmen show in new sizzle reel

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s been a minute since we last heard anything official about HBO’s Watchmen series, which is kinda-sorta based on Alan Moore’s classic comic, but it’s set years later and just go with it. We last saw footage in a sizzle reel that also had clips from the final season of Game of Thrones. This new one only has footage for shows that will debut Thrones ends forever and leaves us alone in our feelings.

The new reel has clips the Deadwood movie, Watchmen, His Dark Materials, Big Little Lies season 2, Succession season 2, and more. Check it out:

The only shot I’m sure is new is a clear look at Don Johnson’s face. He plays a cowboy hat-wearing cop. Here he is walking down a hallway, his yellow-masked police officers standing at attention:

Serving face:

We’ve seen discount brand Rorshach before, but here he is turning as a police car’s lights flash across his cheap potato sack mask. That’s what you get when you don’t take the time to buy a mask with moving pieces, Knock-off Rorschach.

We’ve also seen Jeremy Irons (reportedly playing an older version of Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias) standing in front of the Gila Flats sign saying, “It’s only just begun.”

What’s only just begun, Ozzy? Are you resurrecting Doctor Manhattan where he was created? And more importantly, will he be wearing pants this time?

So far as the cast goes, Johnson and Irons are being joined by:

  • Regina King as Angela Abraham
  • Tim Blake Nelson as Looking Glass
  • Louis Gossett Jr. as Old Man
  • Adelaide Clemens as Pirate Jenny
  • Andrew Howard as Red Scare
  • Tom Mison as Marcos Maez/Mime
  • Sara Vickers as Erika Manson/Marionette
  • Frances Fisher as Jane Crawford
  • Jacob Ming-Trent as Panda
  • Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Cal Abraham
  • Jean Smart as Agent Blake

The Leftovers creator Damon Lindelof will act as creator/showrunner, with the show airing at some point this year on HBO.
