Peter Dinklage names his favorite scene from Game of Thrones season 8

HBO has released several videos going behind the scenes of the latest Game of Thrones episode, but there’s always time for more. Below, the cast and crew talk hit the high points of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” from Sam giving Heartsbane to Jorah to Tormund drinking a gallon of mead to Arya’s busy night:

A couple of things here stand out to me. First, there’s Peter Dinklage saying that the laid-back hangout among characters in front of the fireplace is his favorite scene not just of the episode but of the final season. “There’s levity, and then suddenly, everybody has these moments of, they’re laughing and then, ‘Holy shit, we might all be not here tomorrow. We might be dead.'”

I completely agree that it was a highlight, but it’s interesting that he name that as his favorite scene, given that we’re probably going to see some major fireworks over the next four episodes. I suppose it was the sort of quiet, relaxed scene we don’t get a lot of on this show. It was definitely a chance for the actors to ease into their performances.

Also interesting is what Emilia Clarke had to say about Jon telling Dany about his secret. “It’s rejection on every single level. For however much strength Dany has as a character, she’s not immune from the person she loves taking that away from her.”

Is Jon taking away Dany’s strength by revealing that they’re 1) related and 2) that he has better claim to the Iron Throne than her? Stay tuned.

I just love Sam’s line to Jorah. “Your father, he taught me how to be a man, how to do whats right. This is right.” Okay, moving on.

And there’s more. In another video, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau takes us through Jaime’s journey in “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” from his trial to knighting Brienne:

And finally, circling back to the season premiere, HBO gives us a closer look at the weapon Arya had Gendry make:

She labeled the end. That’s good draftsmanship. She’ll surely need that thing this Sunday when the dead come knocking.
