The final season of Game of Thrones isn’t quite halfway through, but HBO is already making plans for how to reap rewards come awards season. Gold Derby that the network is going to submit Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) in the lead acting categories at the 2019 Emmys.

Prior to season 7, Game of Thrones cast members were only ever submitted for consideration in the supporting acting categories, and it worked out pretty well; Kit Harington received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance in “Battle of the Bastards” in 2016, while Clarke got nods in 2013, 2015 and 2016. But then, after season 7, HBO submitted Harington and Clarke in the lead actor categories and neither of them made the final list. Things backfired a little bit, but they’re trying again this year. Might as well aim high for the final season, right?

Also, with Clarke out of the supporting actress category, it could potentially give other cast members like Maisie Williams, Lena Headey and Sophie Turner, a fighting chance for a Best Supporting Actress statue. To date, the only cast member to win an Emmy for their work on the show is Peter Dinklage, who’s won in the Best Supporting Actor category three times. Just one more win and he’ll break the record.

With 38 statues under its belt, Game of Thrones has won more Emmys than any other scripted TV show in history save Saturday Night Live, which has been on the air since 1975 so you really can’t compete with that. Given that its the final season, the odds are in the show’s favor to walk away with the Best Drama Series award. Anyone who disagrees should keep an eye on the Battle of Winterfell this Sunday.

Per Gold Derby’s article, here’s HBO is submitting for consideration for the 2019 Emmys:

  • Drama Actress: Emilia Clarke
  • Drama Actor: Kit Harington
  • Drama Supporting Actor: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage
  • Drama Supporting Actress: Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams

Who do you think will make it on the official list?
