Avengers: Endgame makes over a billion dollars on opening weekend
By Ariba Bhuvad
Avengers: Endgame, ya’ll. And that’s how you wrap up a story a decade in the making. Between Endgame and Game of Thrones, there were plenty of Starks on our mind this weekend. Happily, we managed to get through it with most of them intact, with millions of fans all around the world flocking to movie theaters to watch.
While the exact box office calculations aren’t quite in yet, Endgame has already broken literally every record possible. Does this surprise anyone? Not really, but dang, Marvel, you really outdid yourselves this time.

Variety reports that Endgame pulled in $1.2 billion on its opening weekend alone, which is staggering. $350 million of that is from the United States and $329 million from China. It surpassed Star Wars: Force Awakens opening night record which made $129 million versus Endgame that made $156 million. Internationally, it broke records as well making $859 million, with China accounting for $329 million alone. Either way, it’s made over half of the total gross of Avengers: Infinity War and has broken a bunch of records on its way to breaking more.
These numbers are making me dizzy.
One weekend in, Avengers: Endgame has already cracked the list of the top 20 highest grossest films ever made, just ahead of Iron Man 3 and just below The Fate of the Furious. And obviously, it’s nowhere near done. How high could it go? The top three highest grossing movies are Avatar, Titanic, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in that order. I’d say the chances of Endgame breaking into that rarefied group are good, but how far it’ll get is harder to say.
