It is now May, which means HBO must to start looking past May 19 — when the series finale of Game of Thrones airs — to try and tempt viewers with its other offerings. One of the potentially big ratings draws will be Damon Lindelof’s take on Watchmen, a show set in the world of Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel.

While HBO has yet to release an actual trailer, it did create a Watchmen Instagram account where it’s been revealing a number of intriguing clips, teasing what to expect. Now, the account has released three all-new teasers, starting with a video of an American flag with 51 stars:

“It’s not 1985 anymore,” the caption reads, referring to the year the comic was set. The graphic novel takes place in an alternate reality where Richard Nixon is president long after his term ended in real life and where Dr. Manhattan helped the United States win the Vietnam War, thus making Vietnam the 51st state.

Speaking of Dr. Manhattan, this next teaser surely is a nod to him.

“Reach out and touch Mars,” reads the caption. In the comic, Dr. Manhattan takes Laurie Juspeczyk (Silk Spectre) to Mars to talk through his feelings on the human condition. Now, at the end of the graphic novel (SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t read it), Dr. Manhatten departs our universe for parts unknown. Will he return for this show?

The last teaser references a more obscure part of Watchmen lore: Tales of the Black Freighter, an in-universe comic book about pirates.

So far as we can tell, HBO’s Watchmen is set years after the Moore’s story, but clearly a lot of the trappings are still around. HBO has yet to reveal a premiere date for the show, but it should drop at some point later this year.
