Netflix recruits Daredevil director for its Witcher series?

Game of Thrones is over in a few short weeks, but there’s a whole new world of genre TV right over the horizon, including Netflix’s adaptation of author Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels. Henry “Superman” Cavill stars as the titular demon hunter, Anya Chalotra is his on-again, off-again sorceress love interest Yennefer, and so on. If all goes well, the first season of the show could be out later this year.

We’ve been tracking the series’ progress here at WiC, and now we may know one of the directors involved: using a combination of well-placed sources and crafty internet sleuthing, Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence has learned that Marc Jobst will be directing at least one episode of Netflix’s show, most likely the season 1 finale.

Jobst has a pretty impressive resume, having worked on Netflix’s lineup of cancelled Marvel shows, including DaredevilLuke Cage and The Punisher, as well as on shows like Runaways, Black Sails and Hannibal. He’s definitely got the genre directing chops to tackle something like The Witcher.

Jobst hasn’t made any kind of official statement, but he did post a picture of a medieval-y looking chair and say he was directing something in Poland, where Netflix recently filmed a scene for The Witcher at the extremely photogenic Zamek Ogrodzieniec castle ruins. That’s not 100% confirmation, but it’s good enough for the internet.

If The Witcher ever becomes a GoT-sized hit, Netflix will start cracking down on that kind of behavior, but until then, we can bask in the innocence.
