Weird masked dudes say “tick tock” a bunch in official teaser for HBO’s Watchmen show
By Dan Selcke
HBO is preparing for life after Game of Thrones with a bevy of new shows, including one based on Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel Watchmen.
This version, from LOST and The Leftovers showrunner Damon Lindelof, is set years after the conclusion of the original story, but there are still plenty of symbols and motifs from the comic. Watch the official teaser trailer:

All the tick tock-ing is likely a reference to the Doomsday Clock in Moore’s original story, which ticked closer to nuclear midnight as the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union heated up. Of course, in our world, the Cold War is long over, but Watchmen takes place in a parallel universe where Richard Nixon was still the president in the ’80s, so who knows what’s happening there? All I know is that, in the future, the Washington Monument has a thing on it:
Clocks — specifically watches — are also associated with the character of Dr. Manhattan, whom HBO recently teased as being connected to the series in some way. His father was a watchmaker, and in the comics the workings of a watch are used as a metaphor for the intricacies of human existence…it’s a whole thing. The comic is chock-a-block with symbolism and it looks like the show will be the same way.
Also notable is the shot of Jeremy Irons as Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias, aka the superhero/villain who dropped an alien surprise on New York City at the end of the graphic novel, killing thousands but uniting east and west against a threat he made up. In his old age, it looks like he’s taken up yoga:
We didn’t get an exact release date, but we now know that Watchmen is coming out this fall!
