Pedro Pascal explains the similarities between Game of Thrones and Star Wars

Set in a post Return of the Jedi-galaxy far far away, Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal as the titular character, a gun-slinging silent type operating on the fringes of the galaxy. That’s a far cry from Pascal’s best-known role as the charming and verbose Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones. And yet, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Pascal believes the two shows have more in common than you might think at first glance:

"I see enormous parallels between the world of Star Wars and the world of Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones might not exist if not for Star Wars, in the way that this world-building genre [took] science fiction to a new level in the way that Game of Thrones takes fantasy to a new level. And the way that it represents such concrete realities that we live in, although the irony being that it’s science fiction and fantasy."

We see Pascal’s point. Both universes are vast, with entire corners of the map left to the imagination, which is perhaps one of the best aspects of this new series. It will explore the fringes of the Star Wars galaxy without adhering to the main “Skywalker saga.”

Of course, we doubt The Mandalorian will feature the same level of sex, violence and sexual violence that Game of Thrones has, although if it does, Pascal should be ready; this is the guy who got his head popped by the Mountain way back when.

The Mandalorian debuts November 12 on Disney+, the same day as the new streaming service drops. It’ll run you $6.99 a month. The Mandalorian won’t be the only Star Wars show on the service, either. They’re also making one about Rogue One’s Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). So much Star Wars is coming our way!
