Game of Thrones “filmed” a Jon-Cersei meeting just to trick us

CAUTION: This post contains SPOILERS for “The Bells,” the latest episode of Game of Thrones.

We all know that Game of Thrones has a spoiler problem. The show has been leakier than the Titanic on its worst day for a while now. However, to their credit, the cast and crew members have done a better job of keeping things under wraps for the final season, give or take a couple affiliates jumping the gun.

Also, during filming on season 8, the show shot a few fake scenes just to throw spoiler-hounds off the scent. That includes a scene where Jon Snow and Cersei meet in King’s Landing, filmed in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Given that Cersei died in her brother’s arms without ever catching sight of Jon Snow in the foundation-shaking “The Bells,” we can officially confirm this shoot as a big old fake.

Take a look at the pains the show took to fool us. They had Kit Harington in costume…

"Lit Harrington as Aejon from freefolk"

…they hired a couple of extras to escort him…

"Jon/Aegon with strange men in black. Wtf? from freefolk"

…they put Lena Headey in her very complicated getup…

"The Empress’s New Clothes from freefolk"

…and they rented out the historic Bokar Fortress just to film a scene that never happened:

"Why are they filming right in front of a window? Speculation time: I´m thinking on dragons from freefolk"

In retrospect, we should have known something was up when Harington, Headey, and showrunner Dan Weiss were standing framed in the window just so. Of course it was a setup. You got us, show! You got us!
