Game of Thones: Such a Gorgeous Mess
By Cory Thone
In the final episode, there are some things that will 100% have to be resolved: Dany’s madness and fate, Jon’s purpose, Bran’s purpose, and the fate of Westeros. Will they even have a king or queen? There’s also Bronn, who is still castle hunting. What of Dany’s army? And Grey Worm? What will become of Sam? Will Tyrion be put on trial for the literal fourth time in the series?
There are also storylines that we, as viewers, have invested dozens of hours in that we would certainly like to see come to a conclusion, and not with an offhand comment either. I swear, if they drop something like “Lord Gendry is doing fine in Storms End” and we never hear from him again, I’ll be upset.
Oh, and if Brienne’s last scene is her crying over a boy, that will be a HUGE disappointment. What will happen with Davos, Podrick and Yara? And will we get anything else with Tormund or is he just gonezo?
OH YEAH AND THERE’S STILL A BIG ASS NUKE OF A DRAGON.
There’s more, obviously. Is it still winter? What is going on with Meera? Why did we spend all that time with the Faceless Men? What about the Iron Bank?
Who cares, I guess? As I said last week, I’m in the acceptance phase. “The Bells” was very pretty. Emilia is awesome at playing evil, as unearned as it was. The CGI was as good as it’s ever been.
Don’t get me wrong, there were a few great moments in the episode. As I said early, Tyrion and Jamie’s goodbye was excellent. The Hound and Arya had a great moment as well. Cleganebowl was fun, and watching Qyburn get taken out by his creation seemed on-brand. But as I said earlier, moments don’t make a show.
