Disenchantment season 2 gets a premiere date, goes full Game of Thrones

facebooktwitterreddit

Netflix has announced the premiere date for season 2 of Disenchantment, the fantasy show from Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening. Call me crazy but it looks like they’re referencing something:

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, right? Anyway, when Disenchantment returns to Netflix on September 20, there will be 10 new episodes to watch (Netflix has already ordered 20 more, which should air in 2020 and 2021). Princess Bean will take ship with her mother for destinations unknown. Also, we really need to know what happened to Elfo.

The cast includes both new and familiar voices:

  • Abbi Jacobson as Princess Bean
  • Eric Andre as Luci, Bean’s personal demon, and probably the funniest character on the show
  • Nat Faxon as Elfo
  • Sharon Horgan as Queen Dagmar, Bean’s mother
  • John DiMaggio as King Zøg, Bean’s father and the ruler of Dreamland (you may remember DiMaggio as Bender from Futurama)
  • Tress MacNeille as Queen Oona (MacNeille’s voice is all over both The Simpsons and Futurama)
  • Billy West as Sorcerio, Dreamland’s resident wizard (he played Fry on Futurama)
  • Maurice LaMarche as Odval, Dreamland’s Prime Minister

The first season of Disenchantment was obviously inspired by Thrones. There are sigils that adorn the walls of the castles, like the ones that represent the great Houses of Westeros. Bean’s suitor impales himself on a throne made of swords, and of course, Bean herself is a blonde haired princess who wants to do great things.

Let’s just hope she doesn’t burn down Dreamland at some point.
