Captain Picard’s Star Trek spinoff gets a title and a logo

CBS has revealed the title and logo for its upcoming Star Trek spinoff series all about the latter-day adventures of Captian Jean-Luc Picard. Can you guess the title? We think you can..

Okay, strap yourselves in: the title is…Star Trek: Picard. Check it out below:

The logo in Picard’s name is the Starfleet badge. This show will see Patrick Stewart return to the role he made famous in Star Trek: The Next Generation. This new series takes place 18 years after the events of the film Star Trek: Nemesis, which saw the destruction of the planet Romulus.

According to Slashfilm, Star Trek: Picard won’t have a tradition showrunner, but instead will have a larger creative team that includes Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman. You can see the tiniest of sneak peaks on Twitter:

“The mandate was to make it a more psychological show, a character study about this man in his emeritus years,”  Kurtzman told The Los Angeles Times. “There are so few shows that allow a significantly older protagonist to be the driver….What happens when circumstances have conspired to not give him the happiest of endings? Hopefully, it’s a reinforcement of Roddenberry’s vision of optimism. He’s going to have to go through deep valleys to get back to the light.”

So there you have it: Picard didn’t get the happy ending he was looking for, so now he’s got to go out into space and find it. Or maybe it’ll be about him navigating the social security system of the future, I don’t know.

Like DiscoveryPicard will air on CBS’ subscription streaming service, CBS All-Access. CBS has yet to reveal when the show will drop, but I’m betting it’ll be near the end of this year. We’ll keep our coms open just in case.
