George R.R. Martin confirms that he does not hate Bronn or Jerome Flynn, which I guess was a thing

George R.R. Martin has been on something of a tear recently, shooting down rumors left and right. First, he refuted the rumor that he had finished writing The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring a while back and was just waiting until HBO wrapped up Game of Thrones to release them. “It seems absurd to me that I need to state this,” he wrote.

"Why would I sit for years on completed novels? Why would my publishers — not just here in the US, but all around the world — ever consent to this? They make millions and millions of dollars every time a new Ice & Fire book comes out, as do I. Delaying makes no sense. Why would HBO want the books delayed? The books help create interest in the show, just as the show creates interest in the books."

So that’s a no on that rumor. Stop asking.

But he wasn’t done. In a separate blog post, he took down the rumor that he “hate[s] the character Bronn and/or the actor who portrays him, Jerome Flynn.” Were people on the money there? “Total bullshit. Not a shred of truth.” Oh.

"I created Bronn, so it would be immodest of me to say he’s a terrific character… but what the hell, he’s a terrific character, and my readers will definitely be seeing more of him in the books to come. And Jerome Flynn has been just WONDERFUL. It’s been a honor to work with him. He’s done a marvelous job of bringing Bronn to life."

I’ll be honest: I had NEVER heard a rumor that Martin didn’t like Bronn or Flynn. The bit about Martin having finished Winds and Dream — that one I’d heard, although it was always silly — the Bronn thing was new to me. Martin is really expanding my horizons when it comes to gossip.

Now that Game of Thrones is officially over, will we get more out-there theories about the remainder of A Song of Ice and Fire or less? Time will tell.
