John Wick 3 beats Avengers at the box office, John Wick 4 already on the way
By Corey Smith
Move over Iron Man, there’s a new hero in town. Dog-loving assassin John Wick’s custom suits might not me made of metal (although consider how many times he gets shot and lives, they might as well be), but his new movie — John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum — has still dethroned Avengers: Endgame as king of the box office.
Smashing industry forecasts that had John Wick 3 picking up $30-35 million on its opening weekend, Parabellum scored $56.8 million, easily besting Endgame’s total of $30 million. (Not that Endgame is hurting, mind you; it’s been at the box office for weeks and is closing in on becoming the highest grossing movie in history. Just let John Wick have this.)
The third chapter in Reeve’s career-redefining action revenge epic follows Wick’s adventures after a price is set on his head for murdering a member of the assassin fraternity’s High Table. Co-starring Halle Berry and a pair of super murderous looking German Shepherds, John Wick 3 took in more on its opening weekend than both of its predecessors combined. The original John Wick (which co-starred Thrones alum Alfie Allen) brought in $14.4 million in 2014 and John Wick: Chapter Two netted $30.4 million in 2017. And the good news doesn’t stop there.
According to Variety, a fourth chapter in the John Wick series is already on the way. Lionsgate is hoping to get it ready for a May 21, 2021 release date. Looks like the biggest problem John Wick now faces is running out of people to kill. We’re sure he’ll deal.
