Stars step out for the world premiere of Amazon’s Good Omens
On Tuesday night, the stars of Amazon’s Good Omens — the small-screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel — walked the grass carpet for the show’s world premiere in Leicester Square in London.
Good Omens is a darkly funny satire on religion, about a fussy angel, Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the loose-living demon, Crowley (David Tennant) who join forces to prevent the coming of the Apocalypse. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse show up riding motorcycles, there are some hilariously inept witch-hunters…it’s a good time.
Gaiman took the opportunity to remember his friend and coauthor. “Terry [Pratchett, who died in 2015], who never asked anything of me in all our years of friendship wrote to me and said ‘you have to do this, you’re the only person out there who has the passion and understanding for Good Omens that I have – you have to make it into television because I want to see it before the lights go out’ I thought I had six or seven years of Terry left, but then he died, which suddenly turned [Good Omens] into his last request.”

Michael Sheen talked about the angel-demon relationship at the heart of the show. “One of the interesting things about the coupling [of Aziraphale and Crowley] is how they rub off on each other, they’ve been on for Earth so long and them to The Beatles, nobody else knows what they’ve been through, but each other – just like The Beatles!”

Good Omens kicks off this Friday, May 31, only on Amazon Prime. All six episodes will be available at once. Later they’ll air a week at a time on BBC2.
