What is dead may never die. Wrong franchise, but the right sentiment. Harry Potter fans can rejoice: four new non-fiction Harry Potter e-books are set for release, with the first two coming at the end of next month.
These books will be published on Pottermore, Harry’s home on the net. Before you take a vacation day to power through the further adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione, these are non-fiction books…well, non-fiction books about an entirely fictional word. Adapted from the Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibit at the British Library, these “bitesize” ebooks go into detail about various aspects of the wizarding world and its history. Cue the titles:
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Potions and Herbology
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures
Per Pottermore, these ebooks are “chance to absorb the colourful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic in a more compact form.” And FYI, the Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibit is also available in audio form as read by Game of Thrones‘ own Natalie Dormer.

Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts and Potions and Herbology will both be released June 27. The second two will come out later this year. Each will feature new illustrations from artist Rohan Daniel Eason.
And thus the Harry Potter literary empire continues to thrive 12 years after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Will J.K. Rowling herself ever return to the well and pen another proper book in the series? Would people want it? I think we’ll live to find out.
