Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) hasn’t seen most of Game of Thrones
With Game of Thrones fans trying to plug the hole in their hearts that used to get filled every Sunday night on HBO, it’s hard to imagine that anyone still hasn’t watched the show. But despite playing a fairly significant role in the series, star Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) admits that she hasn’t seen most of it.
While on the U.K. television show Sunday Brunch, Whelan revealed that she hasn’t seen the finale yet, although she does know how the series ends. She was there for part of it, after all. “I came home and my husband was watching, and I saw the final bit,” she said, “but I haven’t seen most of the series yet, because we didn’t have internet in our house.”
We’re such fans of Game of Thrones that it’s weird to think that for some of the people on it, it really is just a job. Still, even without watching, Whelan’s always portrayed Yara with the required steel and conviction, although we saw less of her over the course of the series than would have liked. At least she survives the whole series and even ends up ruling the Iron Islands!
But even if she hasn’t seen most of the series yet, Whelan is grateful that she got to star in it. “It was such a fun thing to do,” she said. “It’s hard to quantify — having that on your CV definitely changes things, but in terms of actually that being a tangible thing in your life, it’s hard to know. But of course, it really does help.”

Whelan’s also been posting plenty of Instagram pictures commemorating her time on the show, like this one from behind the scenes of season 6:
Whatever Yara’s struggles, Whelan certainly seemed to have enjoyed herself during shoots.
Then, after Theon died in the Battle of Winterfell, she also posted something in tribute to star Alfie Allen. It seems the two have a sibling relationship both inside and outside the show:
For those still wanting to see more of Whelan, she’s currently playing a completely different role as an uptight 19th century upperclass English woman on HBO’s Gentleman Jack. It’s as different from Yara as can be, but Whelan is great no matter what role you put here in.
