Harrison Ford: Indiana Jones 5 should start filming next year
There’s been a of of speculation about the schedule of the oft-delayed Indiana Jones 5, but Harrison Ford himself has cleared things up by saying that the new installment “should be starting to shoot sometime next year.”* The 76 year-old actor provided the info to Variety while attending Sunday’s premiere of The Secret Life of Pets 2 at Westwood’s Fox Theatre. “I’m looking forward to it,” he added. “Things are coming along well.”
Ford will once again team up with series director Steven Spielberg. The first draft of the script was written by David Koepp (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Jurassic Park), while the final screenplay is being husbanded by screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story). The film is supposed to drop into theaters on July 9, 2021.
While there’s been a lot of discussion about someone potentially taking over for Ford in the iconic role of the adventurous, fedora-wearing archaeologist, Ford has been adamant that he’s taking Indy to the grave. “Nobody is going to be Indiana Jones, don’t you get it?” he told Today. “I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy … This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine (Ford probably means Chris Pratt) this. I’m sorry, man.”

Ford is getting kind of long in the tooth, so if we get at least one more Indy film even with him, I’ll count myself lucky.

Of course, the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 will be Disney’s first time producing a film in the lucrative franchise, and it’s hard to see the big Mouse retiring such an established and profitable vehicle just because Ford gets too old to crack a whip. Stay tuned.
