WarnerMedia is one of the many companies currently mounting their own streaming services to compete with the likes of Netflix and Hulu and the rest. To help get it off the ground, the company has ordered a show set in the Dune universe called Dune: The Sisterhood. The show will be produced by Legendary Television and the pilot will be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049), who is also directing the Dune movie set to hit theaters in November 2020.
According to Variety, Sisterhood is “told through the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune.”
The Imperium, FYI, is kind of the Galactic Empire of the Dune universe. “The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me,” Villeneuve said. “Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series.”

Called witches for their mastery over body and mind, the Bene Gesserit begin a breeding program that matches powerful sisters of their order with members of royal bloodlines in the hope of creating a prophesied figure known as the Kwisatz Haderach, a male who will possess the most powerful prescient abilities in the universe. Here’s how David Lynch depicted them in his 1984 version of Dune:
For now, there are no details on when Dune: The Sisterhood will debut, but obviously it won’t be before WarnerMedia’s streaming service drops. That’s expected to have a beta trial later this year and should be live by March of 2020. The WarnerMedia streaming service will be part of a pricey streaming package that will include HBO, Cinemax, and a slate of Waner Bros. movies and television shows. Peak TV continues to peak.
