Nike and Netflix unveil new Stranger Things sneakers, apparel
By Corey Smith
Just in time for our return to Hawkins, Indiana, Nike and Netflix have announced a collaboration: say hello to a mess of shoes and clothes modeled off the streaming service’s hit show Stranger Things. Naturally, everything is very ’80s:
This comes a day after Netflix and Nike pulled a viral marketing stunt about a Nike shipment that went “missing” in 1985, the year the third season of the show takes place. You could even call a number where a mysterious government guy says there might be something “supernatural” about the shipment. It was all very New Media.
Anyway, the missing shipment ended up being a bunch of t-shirts, hats and shoes. Nike revealed that the first part of the line — items sporting Hawkins High’s green-and-orange color scheme and tiger mascot — will drop on June 27. The second half of the collection, which features a red, white and blue color scheme, drops on July 1. The third season itself drops on July 4, so you’ll have time to get all this merch to wear for your binge.
Green and orange isn’t my favorite color combination, but hey, tigers. Red, white and blue is certainly more classic, but that gym shirt brings back lots of memories. At least I’m not relying on my allowance to buy Nikes this time around.
A few months back, Game of Thrones struck a similar partnership with Adidas, although understandably none of those shoes showed up on screen. We wouldn’t be surprised if some of the characters were wearing these sneakers come July 4.
