Former Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo), who is playing House Atreides’ loyal swordsmaster Duncan Idaho in Legendary Pictures’ Dune reboot, has finished filming his scenes. The actor posted a photo to his Instagram with the hashtags #thatsawrap and #dunedone. And also Slayer and Anthrax were there, still rocking after all these years:

Man, he looks so weird without that beard of his.

Anyway, I’m a big Dune fan, so let’s get into a few SPOILERS about Idaho.

Here’s the thing: in the books, Duncan Idaho dies saving the lives of Paul and Lady Jessica when House Atreides is betrayed by someone close to the family, at about the halfway point through the first book. Since production on Dune began just 12 weeks ago, and since director Denis Villeneuve (ArrivalBlade Runner 2049is splitting the first book into two films, I’m guessing Duncan dies at the end of the first movie. Maybe it’s the climax.

That said, the character returns in the sequel books, having been cloned by an alien species for the purposes of infiltrating Paul Muad’Dib Atreides’ court and getting close enough to kill him. It could happen to anybody.

I’m not entirely sure how many of the Dune books Villeneuve and company are going to adapt, but it’s possible Momoa could return to this eventually. The first Dune movie is set to hit theaters in November of 2020.
