Game of Thrones costume designer: Kit Harington “lost his way a bit” after show ended

A couple weeks before the airing of the Game of Thrones series finale, star Kit Harington (Jon Snow) quietly checked into a wellness center to work on personal issues, according to an official statement from his publicist.

We all hope he’s doing well, as do his fellow cast and crew members. Speaking to US Weekly, longtime Game of Thrones costume designer Michelle Clapton sympathized with Harington’s situation:

"[The younger cast members] were children when they started. And it became such an enormous thing, and I think when you stop, it’s sort of a huge security blanket is taken away. I mean, they all became friends with each other, and then suddenly, there’s nothing to go back to. So I would imagine that had something to do with it. He lost his way a bit."

All of that sounds completely relatable. Anytime a big part of your life comes to a close, it’s bound to create some stress. “He was really a sensitive soul,” Clapton continued, “and he was very upset in that final read through because I think it felt like home for [the cast], and they realized, ‘This is it.'”

Regardless of the reasons, we salute Harington’s desire to seek help, a sentiment Clapton shared. “As much as he’s talented and will go on to many other things, I think it’s just after eight or nine years, it’s a big adjustment. I’m sure he’ll be OK, though.”

Clapton isn’t the only one pulling for Harington. Game of Thrones fans the world over have raised over $50,000 in Harington’s name for the Mencap charity, with which he has long been involved. If you want, you can donate here.
