Confirmed: Rosamund Pike to play Moiraine in Amazon’s Wheel of Time show
By Dan Selcke
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the Pike will, indeed, play Moiraine. She’ll also be credited as a producer.
Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s Wheel of Time series if among the greatest works of fantasy literature not to get a big or small screen adaptation. (Technically a pilot for a Wheel of Time show was aired in the dead of night at FX once but that was done for rights reasons and we’re just going to ignore it.) Amazon is looking to change that with a new, highly anticipated series set to begin shooting in Prague this September. Ready for a new fantasy epic?
For all the hype, we still don’t know much about The Wheel of Time series. However, there are flagrant some rumors floating around, which are good enough for us:
That’s from bakiniz, a Turkish-language entertainment site. Roughly translated, it says that, according to rumor, Amazon has offered English actress Rosamund Pike the lead role in Wheel of Time. Sites like LRM have picked up the rumor, too, and Reddit is all over it.
And what’s the lead role in Wheel of Time? We’ll let the official description do the talking:
"The fantasy epic is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine believes that one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it. The series draws on numerous elements of European and Asian culture and philosophy, most notably the cyclical nature of time found in Buddhism and Hinduism."
Like A Song of Ice and Fire, The Wheel of Time has a sprawling cast, but Moiraine is as good a character as any to focus on at the start.

Pike is an accomplished actor with a lot of impressive credits to her name, although audiences are probably most familiar with her thanks to her role as the dangerous, conniving Amy Dunne in Gone Girl, a performance that netted her an Academy Award nomination.
Finally, let’s end by reiterating that this is JUST A RUMOR. It very well could come to nothing. But then again…
