Something’s amiss in another new clip from Stranger Things season 3

Stranger Things 3 is just 10 days away. TEN DAYS AWAY! Breath it in.

In anticipation, the show’s official Twitter account has been counting down the days with clips and pictures of what’s to come. Today’s clip is a throwback to the hero we didn’t deserve: Bob Newby, the superhero of season 2.

Played by Sean Astin, Bob Newby was a mild-mannered RadioShack employee who dated Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) in the show’s second season. Despite standing in the way of an inevitable Joyce-Hopper romance, he quickly became a fan favorite, because he was a total dork and generally awesome.

Unfortunately, he was taken from us too soon. A Demodog killed him in Hawkins Lab, right after he saved part of the group from grim death. He may be gone, but the superhero will never be forgotten.

Although his memory may be in trouble. In the above clip, we pan across the room to a drawing of Bob Newby on the Byers family fridge. However — however — something strange starts happening, and all the magnets fall to the ground.

This is interesting because back in season 1, Mr. Clarke, the boys’ science teacher, talked about how magnetic fields would start acting strangely if a portal to another dimension ever opened. Has a portal to the Upside Down opened somewhere in Hawkins? Based on the trailer for season 3, the gang is far from done with fighting interdimensional baddies:

We need Bob Newby, like yesterday.

Of course, Joyce and Eleven and everyone are familiar with weird stuff going down in Hawkins. Does anyone else in town know? What about new character Mayor Larry Kline, played by ’80s treasure Cary Elwes? The Wrap asked Elwes as much in a recent interview.

"It’s the first time we’re meeting the mayor of Hawkins and it turns out he’s a rather self-centered individual. And he’s one of these politicians that seems to be very full of himself and not always honest, and a little bit demeaning of others, perhaps. Like I said, he’s a bit smarmy."

Elwes claims that Kline doesn’t know anything about Hawkins’ exceedingly seedy underbelly, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Stranger Things season 3 drops on July 4.
