Cary Elwes debuts as Mayor Kline in another new Stranger Things promo
By Dan Selcke
The third season of Stranger Things drops on July 4. If you’ve been on the internet lately, you probably know that. Netflix has been promoting it hard, dropping a new clip seemingly every day and partnering with all the companies.
That continues today. Over on the Stranger Things Twitter account, Netflix dropped a charmingly retro commercial for the Hawkins Fun Fair, a Fourth of July celebration that definitely won’t turn into an orgy of destruction once monsters from the Upside Down break into our dimension and start wrecking stuff.

This is the most ’80s faux commercial I’ve seen since the one for the Starcourt Mall, the other big new location in Stranger Things season 3:
I like that the show is getting new sets, and clearly the marketing team is having fun putting together these retro commercials. Also of note is ’80s treasure Cary Elwes as Mayor Larry Kline, a character Elwes describes as “self-centered” and “smarmy,” if you’ve not picking that up from the clips. Mostly, it’s just cool that Elwes is involved. This is the star of ’80s classic The Princess Bride…and also the first Saw movie, but the Duffer Brothers probably aren’t trying to remind you of that.

Should I take the fact that the Fun Fair opens at 11:00 a.m. on July 4 as an indication that the new episodes will drop at the same time? Probably not.
