With Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters this December, we’re coming up on the end of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. But now that Disney is in charge of all things Star Wars, you know it’s not going to end there, right? Disney is already busy with at least two other trilogies, one driven by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and another from the minds of Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
The sequel trilogy featured familiar faces from the original trilogy, with Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) all present and accounted for. Will we see people from the current trilogy in the next ones?
According to star Daisy Ridley (Rey), no. Or at least, she won’t be in any of them. I think. Her exact words to Buzzfeed were, “I mean, I can say I’m not in the next trilogy. No.” That’s…ambiguous at best, but she later cleared it up:
"I think, ’cause Rian always said… if it’s the Rian one… or it’s the guys that did Game of Thrones. I’m not sure. Whichever one it was, they always said it was going to be a separate story. So I’m not, no."
We’re still not exactly sure what the next trilogy will be, but it’s starting to look like it will be set thousands of years before the current story during the height of the Old Republic, where Jedi and Sith battled each other across the galaxy. The rumor is that Benioff and Weiss would be handling that one. And obviously, Rey couldn’t show up in a story set in the distant past.

But after that, who knows? Maybe Benioff and Weiss’ trilogy will be set in the past but Johnson’s movies will take things into the future, where cameos are on the table again. Disney certainly has enough Star Wars movies planned to cover all the bases.
