Doctor Who action figures inspired by Big Finish to be released!

A new range of Doctor Who action figures has been revealed by Character Options, as inspired by the audio stories of Big Finish Productions!

Well, this is something ridiculously cool that I thought would never happen! Brand new action figures by Character Options, inspired by the Doctor Who audio adventures from Big Finish, will be released this summer.

There are a couple of sets that we can expect, starting with the Eighth Doctor in his Dark Eyes costume and the Dalek Interrogator Prime from In the Garden of Death in last year’s The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 2. A new image has been revealed for this first release, and it looks fantastic!

Other Big Finish inspired releases we can look forward to include Doctor and Dalek sets for both the Seventh and the War Doctors. It’s fantastic to see Character Options expanding their market and dipping into the world of Big Finish with these sets.

Eight’s costume

It’s especially cool to see Eight using a costume that was practically made for his audio stories. It was incredibly exciting when it was first revealed in 2010, as it presented a very different look for his Doctor. When the cover was revealed for the epic Eighth Doctor box set Dark Eyes in 2012, it was incredibly exciting to see McGann in the new costume for an official release.

Nicholas Briggs, Big Finish’s Executive Producer, describes how the costume was first created.

"The costume was all Paul McGann’s idea when we recorded Dark Eyes. He was keen for us to take a new set of photos with him, as he felt we’d well and truly worn out the photos that had been taken on the set of the TV movie by a BBC photographer. A fan friend of his had made the costume for him, complete with brand new style sonic screwdriver. So that became his brilliant new look!"

I never thought that this look for the Eighth Doctor would ever see the light of day as an action figure. Both the audio fan and the big kid in me is extremely happy about this. Now that we’ve seen an image, when can we expect to see more? Not that long, according to Al Dewar, Creative Director at Character Options.

"As you can imagine we’ve been keeping this inventive collaboration under wraps for a while so it’s fantastic to be able to release this first image of these unique additional sets to the B&M store range. As announced previously we plan to do a full unveiling live, which will take place ‘unboxing style’ on Character Options’ own You Tube channel in July; details of the time and date will be announced soon."

Well this is certainly exciting news. We’ll be keeping a close eye on these releases, and will update when we get more glimpses of this exciting new range!
