Game of Thrones may be over, but there are still terrific medieval dramas to look forward to. For example, Netflix is currently filming a fourth season of The Last Kingdom, and the cast and crew are eager to bring you along on the journey.

Let’s take a look, although beware SPOILERS for season 3. Destiny is all!

Who will win in the ongoing struggle between the Danes and the Saxons? This photo of leading man Alexander Dreymon (Uhtred) enjoying a popsicle between takes doesn’t answer that question, but it is pretty funny:

Hopefully the popsicle doesn’t make it onto the screen. There’s a lot of that going around.

Magnus Bruun’s Cnut seems a likely rival for Uhtred come season 4. Hopefully Cnut doesn’t die, because Bruun is a behind-the-scenes treasure trove. First up, Cnut shows off another victim. To the halls of Valhalla this one goes:

Sunglasses were important in Viking culture, you know.

In a less violent post, Bruun uploaded a pretty cool shot of what we assume is the murder weapon:

Finally, Bruun gives us an oh-so-cute shot of himself alongside Emily Cox (Brida), Cnut’s newfound love interest in season 3. Yes, they’re covered in blood, but they still look pretty happy:

Were the two fighting against each other, or on the same side? Thor and Odin help Cnut if Brida ever finds out who orchestrated Ragnar’s death.

Next up, the Lady of Mercia, Millie Brady (Aethelflaed) and her mother, the dowager Queen of Wessex, Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), pose for the camera. Love the hashtags, ladies.

The next two shots show Emily Cox and her stunt double preparing for what looks like a glorious battle. Well, the weather looks glorious, at least:

Elsewhere, Arnas Fedaravicius (Sihtric), appears to be taking a moment after yet another hard-fought battle.

Sithric usurping Uhtred’s rightful place? Say it ain’t so!

And finally, below we have Mark Rowley (Finan) Fedaravicius and a third man doing…dance-parkour? Not sure, but we love it.

That’s it for this round, but fear not arselings: there will no doubt be plenty more behind-the-scenes pics between and when season 4 drops in 2020.
