Another “significant” new Dune project is on the way

Dune is having a bit of a renaissance right now, as are a lot of fantasy properties in this post-Game of Thrones age. Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve is adapting Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction story as a series of movies while a TV series about the mysterious the Bene Gesserit sisterhood is coming to WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service. Everything’s coming up giant sand worms!

And there could be MORE! Brian Herbert, the eldest son of Frank and the author of several Dune books himself, said this the other day on Twitter:

He signed a “significant new Dune franchise contract, huh? Well, Dune already has the big and small screens covered. He also mentions a new tabletop game and a “digital game” (does he mean a video game?) in the works. What’s left? A series of Dune restaurants? Dune dune buggies? Or maybe — and this is the obvious pick — a new book? I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.

And it’s good to hear that filming on the first Dune movie is going well. With all the stars who are part of it, that should be one to watch.

Is Dune overexposing itself? I know that after Game of Thrones, everyone is rushing to get their hands on the next big fantasy franchise, but mounting a movie series and a TV show and a video game and a new mystery project all at the same time sounds like a bit much. We’ll need a lot of spice to get through the coming content onslaught.

dark. Next. Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead comic almost ended in this bonkers way
