Doctor Who: New Blu-ray steelbook release for Tenth Doctor’s final episodes
By James Aggas
Details and artwork have been revealed for the latest Doctor Who steelbook Blu-ray set, which contains the final episodes of David Tennant’s iconic Tenth Doctor.
Following the steelbook releases of the first four series, the next Doctor Who release to get similar treatment will be the Tenth Doctor’s final episodes. Doctor Who: The Specials covers all the episodes after David Tennant’s final full series in the role, from Christmas Day 2008 with The Next Doctor all the way through to New Year’s Day 2010 with The End of Time: Part 2.
What makes these steelbook releases so collectible is the excellent artwork that they feature, and this latest release will be no exception. Tom Webster (whose cover for upcoming First and Second Doctor story Daughter of the Gods is a must see) has provided striking cover art for this release. The front features the simple but effective image of Tennant’s Doctor in his final moments, while the back cover shows a collection of friends and foes from all five episodes.

A new exclusive?
Along with the episodes themselves and the new artwork, the story includes previously released special features, including commentaries, deleted scenes, David Tennant’s video diary and more.

Interestingly, however, this box set does boast an exclusive in terms of its content. Along with the live-action specials themselves, a bonus disc is also included in this set that features two animated stories: The Infinite Quest from 2007 and Dreamland from 2009.
Neither of these had been included in the previously released standard Blu-ray box set of The Specials before, (although they had been released individually,) so this is an interesting exclusive. (The stories have also been included in the recently released The Animation Collection, exclusive to Region 1.)
Once again, serious collectors of the Blu-ray steelbooks will have something nice to add to their shelves when this is released on Monday 2nd September.
