A brand new trailer has been released for upcoming Doctor Who box set The Further Adventures of Lucie Miller, starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and Sheridan Smith as Lucie Miller.

It feels like 2007 all over again! A trailer has finally been released for this month’s Doctor Who audio box set The Further Adventures of Lucie Miller, and I’m feeling incredibly nostalgic right now.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the character, Lucie Miller originally appeared in The Eighth Doctor Adventures from 2006 (barely – her first episode was broadcast on New Year’s Eve) to 2011. Starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and Sheridan Smith as Lucie Miller, the series was a highly popular one for Big Finish. So much so that when the first episode of the third season was released for download exclusively from Big Finish’s website in 2009, the sudden surge of demand was enough to crash Big Finish’s servers!

It’s not hard to see why the series was so popular. McGann and Smith are both brilliant actors in their own right. In fact, both during and after her time working on the series, Sheridan Smith’s career took off in a big way, getting leading roles in TV series such as Cilla and appearing in several West End musicals, including Legally Blonde and Little Shop of Horrors.

But even better than their individual talent was the chemistry that the two actors shared. The relationship between Eight and Lucie was as brilliant as some of the very best pairings in Doctor Who history, including Two and Jamie and Ten and Donna.

It’s been eight years since Lucie’s brilliantly dramatic exit in To The Death. Since then, we’ve had many more Eighth Doctor stories told, including Dark EyesDoom CoalitionRavenous and even stories set during the Time War. But, aside from a couple of Short Trips purely narrated by Smith, we haven’t had any more stories of Lucie Miller.

However, that finally changes this month. Check out the trailer for The Further Adventures of Lucie Miller below for an idea of what to expect.

Early days

Unsurprisingly, these stories take place during Eight and Lucie’s original era. There’s no way they’re bringing her back in a story set after To The Death, after all. All four of these brand new stories are set in the gap between Series 1 and 2, when Eight’s and Lucie’s friendship was really getting started.

We’ve also got a nice mixture of stories to look forward to in this box set. The Dalek Trap by Nicholas Briggs gives us one more story of the Eighth Doctor and Lucie against the deadly pepper pots. Surprisingly, this particular pairing only have two other encounters with the Daleks, in series opener Blood of the Daleks and series finale To The Death. So it makes sense to squeeze one more in there.

More from Winter is Coming

Other adventures we can look forward to include The Revolution Game by Alice Cavender, which looks set to give Lucie a birthday she’ll never forget, and The House on the Edge of Chaos by Eddie Robson, which sounds like a very Doctor Who take on Upstairs, Downstairs on an alien world.

The box set will round off with Island of the Fendahl by Alan Barnes, which features the return of the Fendahl, an evil entity that has previously appeared in Fourth Doctor story Image of the Fendahl as well as recent Torchwood audio Night of the Fendahl.  So we’ve got a good mix of stories to look forward to, ones that would fit easily in the more light-hearted era of the early series. For Eighth Doctor fans like me, this will be a wonderful blast of nostalgia.

As for that last line in the trailer: not cool, Big Finish. Not cool.
