Remember the ’90s? Remember The Lion King? Remember Beauty and the Beast? Remember Aladdin? Remember The Little Mermaid? Disney is hoping you do, because it’s remade (or is remaking) all of them as live-action features. So far, their venture has paid off, with Beauty and the Beast among the top 20 highest-grossing movies of all time, and the rest of its remakes doing very nicely. And they are not done by any stretch of the imagination.

Next on the remake docket is The Lion King, which comes out later this month. But what’s after that? Enter a live-action remake of the 1998 animated movie Mulan, based on the legendary story of Hua Mulan, who joined the Chinese army disguised as a man. The new version star Liu Yifei as the title character and is looking pretty sick based on this newly released teaser:

I can hear the opening strings of “Reflection” blooming on the soundtrack there, although according to director Nick Caro, this movie won’t feature any of the musical numbers from the animated original. And by that I mean that the songs won’t be sung; there will still be instrumental versions.

And I’m cool with that. It’ll help the remake stand out from the original; based on this trailer, the movie looks like it’ll have a war film aesthetic. Looks pretty promising!
