American Gods will begin production on its third season in September of this year, according to HN Entertainment. Could this be real? IS it real? Will the third season start and finish with no complications, unlike season 2? Let’s hope so, fam, let’s hope so!

If you’re a fan of STARZ’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, then you probably know about the behind-the-scenes drama that delayed season 2. Between showrunners changing, cast members leaving, and the like, at one point it looked like cancellation was in the cards. Thank goodness we sidestepped that, at least.

This is why season 3 going into production so soon after season 2 ended back in April is so freaking exciting. It’s a normal turnaround time, and considering the uncertainly that plagued season 2, this show could use some normalcy.

Starting on Sep 30, production will officially be underway in Toronto, Canada and will run through Mar 6 of next year. Gone are the days of hoping and wishing for more news as the days and years slipped by. Here’s hoping new showrunner, Dexter’s Charles Eglee, will keep the series running smoothly.

And while we’re waiting for season 3, there is a way to pass the time. Fans will be able to watch season 2 of American Gods on digital and Blu-Ray starting July 22, and/or on DVD on Aug 20, according to Media Play News. The best part is that you don’t just get to rewatch the season but also have access to the following featurettes:

  • “The House on the Rock: Setting the Stage,” a closer look at the location
  • “The Second Coming: Neil Gaiman on Season Two”
  • “Gods and Ends: Random Musings from the Cast”

Personally, I’d love to see how the House on the Rock came together. It was such an integral part of the second season and I’m sure there are lots of interesting tidbits behind its creation and execution. Plus, Ricky Whittle’s musings? Sign me up.
