By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that Legendary Pictures is making a movie based on Frank Herbert’s seminal Dune series. The first will be helmed by director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Bladerunner 2049). Production began a few months ago, and the cast members are a high-profile bunch.

Among them is Dave Bautista (Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy), who plays Glossu Rabban Harkonnen, aka “the Beast.” In the first Dune novel, he’s known for his cruel, ineffective reign over the planet of Arrakis before House Atredies took over. He tortured, enslaved, and killed the planet’s native inhabitants, the Fremen, and earns his nickname after he kills his own father.

Bautista was a great heel during his wrasslin’ days in the WWE, so a turn a brutal-but-not-that-bright corrupt governor makes perfect sense for him. The other day, he shared a photo of himself on the set of Dune, his eyes lowered in a malevolent glare:

Yeah, I can get behind him as the Beast.

Just so you know, this image hasn’t been edited; Bautista is holding up his cast chair, which has his character’s name stitched across it. He was in Budapest, Hungary when he uploaded the photo, meaning he was still filming scenes for Dune as of three days ago. Origo Films Studios is located there, and that’s where Denis Villeneuve set up shop to film Bladerunner 2049.

Dune will be split into two films, giving ample screentime to cover Frank Herbert’s original novel. Look for the movie to hit theaters in November of 2020.
