Sheridan Smith returns as one of the Eighth Doctor’s greatest companions in Doctor Who: The Further Adventures of Lucie Miller – out today!
Today marks the release of Big Finish’s latest Doctor Who box set – and like last week’s release The War Master: Rage of the Time Lords, it once again features Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor!
Recent releases featuring his incarnation have been set either during the Time War or in the long buildup to it. But The Further Adventures of Lucie Miller rewinds the clock back further, back when things were lighter and easier for his incarnation. To the days when he was happily traveling with his friend Lucie, as played by Sheridan Smith.
For many fans like myself, this release is as nostalgic as a new story featuring the Tenth Doctor and Rose would be for many New Series fans. The Eighth Doctor and Lucie were a considerably popular pairing for Big Finish, and brought a whole new audience to their audio stories. Sheridan Smith was consistently brilliant as Lucie, and the chemistry between her and McGann was absolutely perfect.
It’s been eight years since Lucie’s final story To The Death, one of the darkest and tragic stories in Doctor Who history. It’s fantastic that we’re finally getting four more stories featuring the companion, particularly as they’re set during the early days for her and the Doctor.
