Are Eleven’s powers gone for good?

As a follow up to our previous question, we have to wonder whether Eleven will get her powers back during the show’s fourth season. Judging by the post-credits scene, we haven’t seen the last of the monsters from the Upside Down, and Eleven is the best possible chance of stopping them. On that basis alone, it seems likely her powers will return at some point. Plus Mike assured her they would come back, and that sounds like the writers calling attention to a story that isn’t done.

Still, we might be in for a fourth season with the odds stacked against Eleven and her friends. If Stranger Things sticks to the usual television tropes, Eleven’s going to have to work to get her powers back. She’ll probably be forced to grapple with her past and whatever remains of the Upside Down before she does. And who can say that Eleven even wants to regain control of her abilities? She’s spent a lot of time chasing after a normal childhood.

It could also be interesting to have a final season where Elle’s powers don’t swoop in to save the day every time the gang is under attack. The past two seasons of Stranger Things have risked recycling the same old storylines, and forcing Elle and the others to find a different way to resolve their supernatural problems could be interesting and different.
