11 unanswered questions we have after watching Stranger Things season 3
Will Nancy ever get her byline?
Stranger Things season 3 does a pretty solid job of exploring sexism in the workplace, particularly during the first few episodes. With Nancy and Jonathan both working internships at the Hawkins Post, fans get a firsthand look at how Nancy is completely written off by the older generation of men that run the place.
And while watching those guys use Nancy as a coffee delivery service is frustrating, it leads to some powerful moments — including a heart-to-heart between Nancy and her mother. After she’s fired from the Hawkins Post for meddling in things above her pay grade, Nancy vents to her mother about everything that’s been happening. And Karen, the MVP of the episode, tells her daughter to keep pursuing the story if she believes that she’s right.
“Can you imagine their faces when they read a story about their own town in a big paper like that?” Karen asks, suggesting that Nancy finish the piece and sell it to the Indianapolis Star. And even if it soon becomes clear that Nancy’s former bosses won’t be reading any more news stories, the season seems to be setting Nancy up for a big breakthrough.
Unfortunately, viewers never get to see that come to fruition. The worst part is, we do get to see news coverage of the third season’s events at the end, including a few newspaper stories about the Mind Flayer and the mysterious disappearances in Hawkins. But anyone hoping to see Nancy’s byline on those stories is in for some serious disappointment. Maybe next season.
