Jon Favreau is already working on The Mandalorian season 2!
When Disney’s streaming service (Disney+) goes live in November, the very first live-action Star Wars television series will make its debut. That show is called The Mandalorian, a story set after the fall of the Galactic Empire between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Former Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) is playing the titular role, as a “gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy.”
Recently, creator, writer and executive producer of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Lion King) was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live and confirmed season 1 was finished, and that he was moving on to the next project. What project might that be? Skip to the 12-minute mark to find out:
“It’s going to be on Disney+, coming up in the fall, and we’re done with the first season, and I’m actually writing part of the second season now, so I’m having a blast.”
So there you have it. Favreau is already working on season 2 of The Mandalorian, even though we’ve yet to see season 1, which is very exciting. A few months ago, we caught wind of a rumor that the show would be renewed for a second season, and while Favreau is currently writing season 2, nothing is official until Disney makes an announcement. Still, I personally don’t think the Mouse would waste Favreau’s time unless it was confident in the product.

As for the show itself, Favreau did offer his own synopsis: “[The Mandalorian] is about a bounty hunter after Return of the Jedi, so the Empire’s gone and all hell’s breaking loose in the Outer Rim. And it’s about the scum and villainy that now once you take out the rule of law, what happens? Chaos takes over,” he said.
Hype level: High, it’s very high. Anyway, if you’re going to be in Anaheim in August, you might want to swing by Disney’s D23 Expo where those in attendance will get to see a sneak peek of The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) in Lucasfilm’s THE MANDALORIAN.
“[O]n Friday, August 23 at 3:30 p.m. in Hall D23, guests will get a sneak peek at Jon Favreau’s action-packed bounty hunter series, The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian (played by Pedro Pascal) is a bounty hunter who travels the outer reaches of the lawless galaxy, surviving as a mercenary-for-hire. Dave Filoni (supervising director on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and writer/director on The Mandalorian), along with special guests, will join Favreau for the on-stage presentation. The highly anticipated program for Disney+ represents the first-ever Star Wars live-action series.”
Make your plans accordingly. The Mandalorian hits Disney+ in November.
