Doctor Who’s robot dog is getting its own spinoff show for kids
K9, Doctor Who’s beloved robot doggo, will be the lead character in a spinoff show just for kids, reports the Mirror. The bestest boy in the Tardis was first introduced in 1977, appearing alongside Tom Baker’s fourth Doctor Who. K9 has already been the star of a couple of spinoffs, K-9 and Company and K-9, and he starred in The Sarah Jane Adventures. But when it comes to shows about robot space dogs, no number of series is enough.
This new spinoff will see a re-designed K9, damaged from battle and fighting a war in space…you know, stuff kids can relate to. “He’s going to look more industrial and be covered in rivets,” said a source.
We know the show will be produced in the UK, although we don’t know who will air it. If a company other than the BCC snaps it up — say Netflix — direct references to Doctor Who proper probably won’t be allowed, which would be a little odd. Then again, K-9 is plenty capable of stirring enough interest by himself. You heard the part where he was a battle-wearied robot war dog, right?

As far as which K9 we’ll see in the new show, it’s also unclear. There have been four versions (Mark I-IV) of K9 throughout the many seasons of Doctor Who. Maybe a K9 Mark V?
K9 has a neat little robot voice, too. His proper British accent can be accredited to voice actors John Leeson, David Brierley, and Roy Skelton. For now, there’s no word on who will voice the character in the newest spinoff. We suggest David Tennant.
