A Song of Dan and Josh: Tyrion IV (A Clash of Kings)

It’s time for A Song of Dan and Josh, the show where myself and FanSided.com editorial director Josh Hill walk through each and every chapter of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, wringing it free of all the literary juices it’s got.

This week, we’re discussing Tyrion IV from A Clash of Kings, a classic Tyrion chapter where he proves why he’s so good at being the Hand of the King. Watch below!

Before you ask, yes, I now realize that the next Sansa chapter isn’t the first one from Clash. It’s the second. Hell, we even talked about the first. My apologies.

As for the Tyrion chapter, a lot of the interesting subtext involves people underestimating Tyrion, and not giving him the respect he’s entitled to. He dances circles around Pycelle, Littlefinger and even Varys, but that’s in part because none of them think he’s as clever as he is. Cersei thinks he’s “less than useless,” but of course that’s normal for her. The people of King’s Landing don’t like them even though he’s trying to save them from threats at home (*cough* King Joffrey *cough*) and abroad (the encroaching Baratheon brothers). Even Lady Tanda Stokeworth lowballs him in the marriage game. What does the Imp have to do to get respect around here?
